Today there is only one reason not to legalize Cannabis and that is irrational fear. But of what?
Right now there are 2 states that have legalized personal possession of Marijuana for anybody over the age of 21.
There are 18 states, and Washington DC, that have legalized the use of Marijuana for medical use.
Billions of dollars are being circulated both underground and in now legalized Marijuana business, and only small portions are being taxed at all. Much of the Marijuana commerce in our nation that is being taxed is considered Medical which with any other medicine would be an outrage to all Americans. What other medicine is taxed at an arbitrary level? How is that acceptable to anybody who is “compassionate”?
But things can change. Things are changing. President Barrack Obama has finally made a statement about the legalization measures in Colorado and Washington and he says that “Users should not be a ‘top priority‘”.
At the same time, many states are considering, even promising, legalization for recreational use. More about that here. US Going Green? More Than a Dozen States Could Consider Marijuana Legalization Next Year.
Even more telling is the outright failure to represent and enforce the laws established against drug cartels and money laundering in the interest of maintaining the well being of our nation both fiscally and health wise. Our government isn’t even trying to hold onto the illusion of enforcement and protection any more. In fact leniency is being touted as the only way to truly protect the American economy because corruption has become so far reaching with deeply engrained societal affect. Don’t take my word for it, read this article from Rolling Stone December 13, 2012. “Outrageous HSBC settlement Proves the Drug War is a Joke“.
Will New York stand for such hypocrisy? Will we stand for such corruption that allows the rich to be corrupt without regard for law openly because enforcing those laws will be too detrimental to all of society? When the laws are untenable it’s not time to start making deals and settlements. It’s time to change those laws and enforce the important ones that will protect our nation by their presence and enforcement. When settling with criminals is most equitable for the nation, we should be forced to ask if we are not simply a criminal nation. This is a detriment to the United States of America, and all Americans, as we attempt to interact with the world and its people on every front, in every way. We must hold respectable positions that we can and will sustain at any cost, or we lose respect and all illusion of power, authority, and humanity.
It’s simply time to legalize Marijuana, and start to rebuild the relationship between authority and the citizenry. When the people of the nation have lost respect for the authority of the governing bodies, the rest of the world can not be expected to maintain that respect either.
I will respect the representative government when they act respectable. This is where we come in. It will take all of us to make them answer to us. Contact your representatives and tell them it’s time to stop the charade and begin to take care of the people. Tell them it is time to Legalize Marijuana and stop wasting time, money, resources and respect.
There has never been a more commanding need for these changes. Epic corruption should tell us this.
Please do something today.
